It was a strenuous hike, with gradual inclines. It was a beautiful and peaceful trail. Do bring bug spray as there are a decent number of mosquitos and watch out for poison oak. Fires and dogs are prohibited.
Big Basin State Park. Drive up the fire road until there is a gate blocking the road, and use that parking area to save a bit of walking. There was a decent bit of water, even though it’s been a while since the last rain.

Park open Sunrise to Sunset. Other then that will definitely do it trai, with a map. I have been hiking with my dog here off leash for years and years and never once gotten in trouble or had a bad experience with other park users. The array of birds and babbling creak provides a very peaceful atmosphere. You get random service areas too on Verizon. A super easy and beautiful hike that winds along Aptos Creek under maarks shade of bay, oak, laurel, and redwood trees.

Its location always seemed odd; it was in a somewhat disheveled-looking wood, somewhat isolated from the main group of redwoods, although a second, slightly smaller redwood grows a few yards away.

If you have the time for an extra not even 2 miles—or if you drive in and park in the area by the last gate—the last push on Bridge Creek Trail to Maple Falls is absolutely worth it. Though horses are prohibited on most of the trails, the park is a paradise for runners, hikers and mountain bikers looking for the thrill of rugged and varied trails, not to mention some of the cleanest air in California.

Find more hotels near Aptos on Expedia. There was fog in the morning, which burned off, in the afternoon. We did the loop and got about 15 miles in. The trail climbs the slope on the other side of the creek. A short side trail leads a few feet to the Twisted Grove, a cluster of small, gnarled redwoods.
The park claims 30 miles of maintained trails and roads meandering through semi-wild terrain and climbing from to 2, feet. This park is just the best. Park at the Safeway and cross the street into the culdesac the road that is straight ahead out of the shopping center lot to walk straight down to the trailhead. If you are hiking with young children, drive all the way to the top. The redwoods seem to be naturally confined to the ravine; on the right side of the trail is a tanoak forest.
My dog really enjoyed playing in the creek and hiking the trails without worrying about bikers. It was a lovely hike, and I was lucky enough to get a bit of solitude at the falls.
